The Reader's Journey by Prentice Hall

The Reader's Journey by Prentice HallThe Reader's Journey by Prentice Hall is an innovative novel-based Language Arts program dedicated to making students lifelong readers. Designed for today’s middle school learners, The Reader's Journey is a program that combines the flexibility of a leveled library with the comprehensive curriculum coverage that has been a hallmark of Prentice Hall language arts programs.

How does the program work?

Start with the Student Work Text. Before reading the Anchor Book, your child will learn reading strategies and how to set up the Reader's Journal. In the Student Work Text, your child will read real-world connections, short passages, and longer passages to provide a variety of literature for students to apply the skills they are learning. Your child will then read the Anchor Book and follow along in the text to develop reading and comprehension skills. Simply choose the novel that matches your child's reading level and interests. Then your child will choose a Free-Choice book to read and make comparisons to the Anchor Book.

What is an Anchor Book?

Anchor Books are the books students read while the curriculum unfolds. The program recommends six such books for each unit; students read two per unit. Not only do the books we recommend support the Big Question themes of the unit, but many are winners of prestigious awards such as the Newbery Award, the Coretta Scott King Award, and the Children’s Book Award for Young Adults.

Pearson creates education materials for all types of learners. When creating a program, we ensure that the material will be accessible to as many students as possible and as such, we create many ancillary products to fit specific situations to meet a variety of needs. While there are many components to each of our overall educational programs, some of these ancillaries do not meet the needs of homeschoolers, others do not make sense in a homeschool environment and some require an expensive technological infrastructure to deploy. The homeschool product configurations, while selected from a larger program, are complete curriculum bundles designed for your children to be engaged and to thrive, while being mindful of your budget. It is important to note that at times there will be resources mentioned throughout your materials that are not included in your package, however this will not hinder your child's successful completion of the course.
