Workbooks

Workbooks Workbooks help children engage with information by requiring their participation in activities such as fill in the blank activities, word discrimination activities, interpreting graphs, and problem solving. Workbooks are available to supplement textbooks, lectures, labs and other methods of learning. Students can often guide themselves through the completion of workbook activities using the workbooks instructions and applying their subject knowledge. Workbook activities can help students discover and remember information as well as practice applying concepts.

Spectrum Workbooks and Steck-Vaughn Workbooks

Spectrum and Steck-Vaughn workbooks are designed for student use in various subject areas. Each workbook is part of a series that can take students from one grade level to the next, from kindergarten to the eighth grade. For example, math students can begin with the basic arithmetic and math skills covered in the kindergarten level of Spectrum Math and advance through the equations, graphs, and geometry concepts in the eighth grade level. Workbooks are also available for the Spectrum Reading Series, Spectrum Writing Series, Spectrum Geography Series, and more. Educators can provide students with a stable course of study by incorporating these workbooks throughout each grade level, or they can select the workbooks that they find most useful for their students and curriculum.

Homework Help and Test Preparation

Workbooks are also effective learning tools when used outside of the classroom environment to support classroom study. Many workbooks, including those by Spectrum and Steck-Vaughn, are developed with core standards and standardized tests in mind. The material and activities in these workbooks covers the same information and skills students are expected to know for the subject and grade level specified for each workbook. Workbooks often supplement classroom study by providing additional practice for the information and skills being covered in the classroom. By reading the workbooks instructions and practicing with the activities provided, students strengthen the skills required for the subject and grade level and can then meet with more success during class and when completing homework assignments. Students who want to improve their test scores, especially if they have a significant test approaching, can benefit most from the workbooks that are designed specifically for test prep such as the Spectrum Test Prep Series and Steck-Vaughn’s Higher Scores on Math Standardized Tests Series.

Summer Bridge Workbooks

Students may fall out of practice during the summer months and forget some of the information and skills they have worked so hard to acquire during the school year. Summer bridge workbooks can help them keep their knowledge and skills fresh and enable them to continue developing academically, so they can transition into the next school year with ease. Summer Bridge Workbooks also help students maintain good study habits by requiring them to continue to devote some time to study year-round. These workbooks are often designed to educate while keeping with the spirit of summer fun, with Summer Bridge Activities by Carson Dellosa and Summer Express by Scholastic incorporating summer themes, bright colors, incentive stickers and other features into their workbooks.
